HOTT Heats Up: FYQ4 Beats, Q1 Beats, Ups Dividend

Shares of teen apparel retailer Hot Topic (HOTT) are up 31 cents, or almost 4%, at $9.10 after the chain this afternoon reported fiscal Q4 revenue and earnings per share slightly ahead of consensus, and forecast this quarter’s profit per share ahead of expectations.

Revenue in the three months ended in January fell 1.2% to $209.9 million, yielding EPS of 21 cents a share, an improvement from the year-earlier penny-per-share loss. Analysts had been modeling $209.3 million, and EPS of 20 cents.

Same-store sales rose 1.3%, year over year, in the quarter, in line with expectations.

For the current quarter, the company projects earnings per share of 5 cents to 7 cents, better than the consensus estimate for breakeven.

Total store count in the quarter fell to 628 Hot Topic stores from 657 a year earlier, and 148 Torrid-branded stores, down from 153 in the prior period.

Hot Topic also raised its dividend a penny to 8 cents a share, it said.

The company will host a conference call with analysts at 4:30 pm, Eastern time, and you can catch the webcast of it here.
