Netflix Spikes As Rumors Of Amazon Interest Reportedly Revive

Netflix (NFLX) shares are up sharply on rumors that Amazon.com (AMZN) might make a bid, according to the Street.com. This is not the first time this theory has surfaced. TheStreet notes that Needham analyst Charles Wolf thinks the combination is unlikely. And it is hard to argue with him; such a deal would likely cost Amazon $7 billion or more.

I’m skeptical.

NFLX is up $7.72, or 7.7%, to $107.54.

Update: This is actually the second day in a row this rumor is driving up the stock, which has now rallied 17.8% so far this week.
