The 6 Highest Yielding Equities In The S&P 500

Dividends and dividend growth are a continuing point of interest, especially as so many fixed income investors choose to avoid fixed income, fearing depreciation due to potential yield spikes. Many investors are now supplementing or replacing the fixed income portion of a portfolio with equities that provide above average dividends and/or that have a strong history of raising their dividends over time.

Some argue that investing in dividend stocks is one of the safest ways to achieve long-term portfolio growth. A diversified portfolio of dividend-paying equities should also provide a stream of cash-flow for short-term needs or to re-allocate.

Below, I have identified the six highest yielding equities within the S&P 500, which now yields just under 2%. These six equities all have a yield of at least 6%. I have also provided their recent share performance rates.

Though these equities do provide a far more substantial dividend than most equities, the S&P 500, or the broader market, they have also performed far worse than most equities and the index in the recent past.
